A Perfect Hike for President's Day

Melissa and I took a President's Day vacation to do a combo Yellow/White Trail Loop at Oak Mountain State Park. The temperature, wind, sites, terrain could not be better. Climbs, Descents- deer- rocks- peaks.... it was incredible.

The trail started with a straight up the mountain pull for over a mile- but the climb is worth it!

Once we hit the ridge of the mountain it was amazing.

We stopped for a few pics and that is where we saw some white tail deer running below us.

Shackleford Peak  was on the white trail.

Coming down was quite a run! But soon we hit what is called "Old Lake' that has an impressive dam and spillway.

The cabins there would be cool to stay.

The final tally was 7.2 miles in 2 hours and 42 minutes and, according to map my run, 1896 calories (seems high to me).
